What Are You Paying For?

Long overdue post :) I’ve had a bad spell of writer’s block which explains the lack of content from me.

I’ve been looking into PPV a fair bit recently and it’s a crazy game, I’m still learning form my mistakes so expect a fair few posts from me in the near future.

Anyway onto the topic of this post, I was testing a campaign out using URL targeting gathering about 30-50 URLs for the first batch to see how that went. I usually double check the pages I’m bidding on to ensure that they are of course on topic to what I’m promoting and not just going to waste money.

I removed any crap ones and launched it, as I saw traffic coming in from one of my targets (it happened to be the KEYWORD.NET target) I just happened to take a look at the page out of curiosity.

Much to my surprise it was totally off topic, I didn’t double check this domain because being the keyword I was focussing on I just assumed that it was what I believed it would be.

Moral of the post is to not assume anything, it was a stupid mistake but the nature of the niche I really doubted that it would be anything else.

  1. I hate when that happens. You know what they say though, when you assume something, you make an ass out of you and me!

Haha funny results :P You have to be careful especially if you are doing a niche your not knowledgable about – one thing could mean something totally different in their lingo :P

  3. Playing around with PPV myself, I learned the same tough lesson.

Also, it always seems that the best URL’s are the WORST converting.

Good luck, I look forward to your posts.
