Think Long Term

After the few months I’ve been in affiliate marketing I still wouldn’t be prepared to rely on this as a sole income, although the figures suggest that my current campaigns will be around for some time I am not prepared to take that risk – just incase.

A sure fire to ensure that you have a more stable income is to spread the risk and have a number of sources that are making you a constant income each day. One of my original goals when starting affiliate marketing was to get 5 campaigns in different niches etc making $100 a day profit, once I hit that mark I could go back and scale each one. The chances of all 5 being removed, over saturated or any other reason which would make revenue drop is smaller than if I had 1 campaign in 1 niche making $500 a day profit.

Granted, once you have a couple of stable sources of making money then you have more leverage when you start new campaigns. You can scale that one as much as possible milking it while it’s hot or while there is little (no) competition.

I’ve been working on affiliate based site for a while but pretty much forgot about it when I was having success with PPC affiliate marketing. The problem I’ve not shut up about (cash flow) isn’t really a problem in the fact that it’s given me the time to step back from PPC and let my campaigns run for a week or 2 while I revisit this project and get that complete. After a solid couple of days working on it I have actually almost got it ready to go in its basic form.

This way I can get it launched, let it age and hopefully bringing in organic traffic – I can also go back into PPC and invest the money that my current campaigns have made into new campaigns to try and increase my income.

  1. Hoping for organic traffic is too much out of my control to feel comfort. PPC gives you (although with Google you’re never really sure) so much more options to influence your outcome. (hehe, and income)

But overall, yep, 10 campaign making $100 are far better than one campaign making a $1000.

    Cheers,
    Alex

  2. I think a website should rely on both organic and ppc traffic, as organic traffic may fluctuate with the change of the search engine rules.
