Split Test Yourself!

I came across something when I was in the process of building my first campaign in my case study, after I put my process together I was looking for the steps I could outsource to free up more of my time to work on other tasks.

You can outsource pretty much anything from your landing page design/coding to your actual landing page copy. Don’t get me wrong, outsourcing is great and there will come a time when you need to take on extra help in order to get through all of your ideas but having only had success with a few campaign what can I base the results on?

I have already created a basic template which I can change the headings, pictures, text and colour to suit any niche in my testing phase – that will save me a bunch of time and let me see if there is a market for that product/offer before moving on to building a separate site for that offer.

I then began asking a few copywriters if they could fit in some work to try and speed things up, most of them were a little busy so I began to just do it myself, again how can I compare the results of someone I’m paying when I don’t know my own skills. I mean I could have used someone else and found out I had a overall CTR of 20% on my landing page (I know there are factors of it being the designs, pictures, text, etc but you get my point), what if I designed and did everything myself and the landing page got 30%?

At least by doing everything yourself first you have a good base performance you can work from, if you end up buying content from someone that performs worse then you know you either need to do it yourself or keep looking around for people that are better – the same with design and everything else you outsource.

On the other hand if you can’t string two sentences together then you will probably be best outsourcing from the beginning, but then again it doesn’t hurt to find out your true skills and work from there. Never doubt yourself into thinking you suck at a particular task until it’s proven :)

This is a really good point and I hadn’t looked at it that way before. It’s a great idea to try your hand at new things and give yourself a chance at being successful at it. I’ve found that with SEO recently. I am learning a lot about it and have been having a bit of success. I always thought that was not “my thing”. I guess maybe it is, eh? Anyway – thanks for the great post!

Exactly, my major issue was that if I am paying someone to write me landing page copy and overall I get a 20% CTR – how do I know if that’s good enough to warrant paying for it?

At least by doing one myself I have something to base other people’s effort on and keep testing new writers to try and beat the current winner.

    Hi Richard,

the main reason to outsource is not a quality issue, but a time issue.

Yes, you have to be able to judge whether the outsourced tasks are done to certain standards of quality, so you have to give good instructions to who you are hiring.

However, the main idea to outsource to get your biz to the next level is to free up time you can spend on generating new ideas and/or concentrate on other tasks that bring in (more?) money.

Of course, sometimes you want to hire somebody to do things better than you can yourself, but then I would call that “consulting” and not outsourcing.

Outsourcing is really all about having others do certain tasks for you at a fairly cheap rate so you can leverage your time and money.

How do I know? I outsourced “web design” and content writing for my affiliate marketing to 2 skilled “outsource partners” in the Philippines, who did a decent job. This freed my time to spend on getting other online income streams up and running.

    Good luck with your test.
