Research Your Problems

This seems like it’s the first proper post I’ve done in a while that provided helpful information opposed to a success story :) , sorry about that.

Anyway this post is something I’m new to so I thought I would point it out. As you know from my last post my campaign hit a snag about half way through my holiday – with everything that I have read this was my first real problem I had come across once I found a successful campaign.

I automatically as my impressions were drastically lower than before I have received a slap for whatever reason, there wasn’t much I could do as I didn’t have access to my computer so I just left it until I got back and enjoyed the rest of my holiday. As a quick fix (or so I thought) I downloaded it, renamed it & threw it back up and then looked into the real reason why I got a slap in the first place.

This is on my content network campaign by the way.

After looking through prosper randomly I noticed that the main sites that drove traffic and sales weren’t appearing at all, at first I didn’t think much of it but then it clicked that I may have been outbid by someone else who has tried a similar approach to what I originally did. I hardly did any competition research once mine was live and just used my data to tweak things, I checked on those domains using worldproxy202’s toolbar to see who was actually competing where I was.

I found a number of other sites showing and after a number of refreshes and checking the site’s pages I didn’t even see one for my site. I guess this means that I was outbid slightly by these competitors, the best thing is that these ‘competitors’ were using a slightly different angle with things and they were not in the niche related to my campaign so their target audience isn’t the same as mine.

I’m taking a long shot here but I guess they just set up a content network campaign and since mine died have been collecting data to what converts and what doesn’t, I’ve ramped up my bids by doubling them to check if this was the issue – I can happily say that I am receiving impressions and clicks again shortly after this. They cost about 5-10 cents more than before so I’m assuming that I was just outbid in the first place.

The bad thing is that I could have fixed things earlier if I knew but I didn’t really have the time to sit down and look through logs to check what the issue was – a lesson learnt for the future :)

  1. Richard,
Is there any training programs or Gurus you can recommend? Did you yourself use any that you felt helped you get to where you are today?

  2. I would recommend going to Wicked Fire and checking the affiliate marketing section – that has a great community and there are some gems of information there.

PS – Just be careful when clicking links to sites from posts ;)
