POF Case Study
-
Geez, it doesn’t feel like months since I last posted on here, I have been taking some time away from affiliate marketing working on another project which is currently in beta. It’s nothing related to any topics on here so I’m not sure if I will talk about it on my blog or not.
I wanted to get back into regular blogging but due to not working on any new campaigns it was hard to think of something to come up with that wouldn’t have just been a load of crap. I decided to take a traffic source I have never worked with and do a case study as I’m sure I will learn things along the way – like I did back when first starting out with PPC.
I have just uploaded a campaign into POF so am waiting for it to get approved (or disapproved), for anyone who intends on using the plenty of fish platform I highly recommend you check out Mr Greens POF Ad Uploader – it’s just saved me hours of work and it’s only about $100.
What I’ve Done?
I picked an offer which I may talk more about in later posts, come up with 5 ad texts and found 6 images to begin with. I’ve also split down into 4 sets of ages to split test – giving me a total of 120 ads pending.
Thanks to Mr Green’s uploader that took about 5-10minutes to upload if that so the plugin has pretty much paid for itself already, I dread to think how long it would take to do that manually.
My Plan
Once approved or disapproved I will monitor the ads giving them 12-24 hours (maybe more) to gather data and see where I am based on the amount of traffic I have received and hopefully conversions.
Next I’ll be going through the ads removing the worst performers in terms of CTR, I’m not really sure what an average CTR of a POF ad is so I’ll have to wait and see how mine perform and take it from there. I will replace the worst performers with more ads based on the ones with higher CTR.
More to come once approved…

from my experience, the number to beat is 0.15;
I hit above 0.30 for some of my niche dating ads, and occasionally above 0.60 for some lucky winners.

Cheers for that, the niche I chose isn’t dating but I’ll take that into consideration.
Is there a usual method you use when deciding on your bids?

it depends on your target audience;
for me, even the lower end of the suggested bid (0.40) is pretty high IMO (runs out pretty quick if you are targeting a wide demographic)
I usually bid half of that and often time it gives me enough data to give me a rough idea on the winning copy/image. from there, i just scale it up and make sure my ecpm doesn’t drop
good luck and looking forward to your next post !

Keep us up-to-date on the case study, I have heard some good things about Plenty of Fish and would like to get some solid information on the quality of the leads.

Yeah it seems to be good so far, although no leads there are a few things I want to test. I love the depth of targetting you can do
