Know Your Options
-
What I’m about to talk about may come natural to many people but after speaking with a few of my friends I was surprised how many didn’t have a backup plan if the worst should happen. What the hell am I speaking about?
What would you do if you got an email saying your offer will be discontinued in the near future?
Depending on your situation this could totally mess things up for you, for example if you are a full time affiliate who relies on the income to pay bills or if it’s your only campaign that you are relying on. Most people will just sort it out when/if it happens but it doesn’t hurt to know what options you have in case you are busy with other arrangements or forget to change it.
Usually affiliate networks have various offers for the same niche so it isn’t that difficult to find a good alternative, you could even shop around other networks to see if they have the exact same offer – you never know, it may even convert better. On the other hand it could convert worse so you have to go back to split testing a few offers to find the best again.
If your landing page/campaign is targeted to that offer you may have to change the landing page and/or ad text so it could be a time consuming task, especially if you have it running on Google, Yahoo and MSN.
The point I’m trying to put across is that nothing is solid in affiliate marketing, you could go from making a profit to a loss very easily so it’s crucial to know what to do if the worse should happen. I’m not saying for every campaign build a back up campaign because that’s just creating unnecessary work for yourself – just be aware that it may need changing next week, month or even year.
