Initial Results of Clickbank
-
I know I’m cutting this experiment short but I’m only modifying my attempts slightly. I have launched 2 campaigns and let them run for a few days until they reached a limit I’m willing to spend in the testing phase (about $500).
I was direct linking to the products sales page assuming that it will sell the product to them. In my opinion I think I was wrong, the conversion rate was always really low for me which I know could mean a lot of things. There could be issues with my keywords, ads, products sales page or my choice of product itself.
What I intend to do now is create a pretty generic landing page that I can simply use for all of my tests, just changing the text, pictures and probably colour scheme to suit the product. Then I can try and presell the product to customers before sending them to the product page, I may look into doing a review style as well so I can split test and find the best approach.
From there I will get a better idea (hopefully) of which products have the most potential so I can go back and create a better landing page and put more time into that specific product.
I will keep you updated on when I launch a campaign and how it turns out, once I become familiar with the process I will try to give you some tips on how to go about starting with clickbank.
I have read some pretty bad stories of people trying out 10-20 different products that fail before they find their first winner, but surely if I set $500 for each campaign ($5,000-$10,000), once I find the one that’s profitable, scaled it as much as possible it won’t be long before I recoup that cost and begin making pure profit.

Direct linking works for a lot of the CB products, esp if it’s outside of the IM/make money online niches.
I personally stay clear of the seedier products listed there, cos with the 60-day refund window and CB’s policies which almost always favor the buyer, you just need a few less-than-honest buyers to throw your affiliate income out of whack.

@ Adam – will do
@ Andrew Wee – Yeah I assumed that would be the case with refunds etc, at the moment I haven’t had any refunds but I’ve done very little volume with them (<10 leads
)
I guess I can split test direct links and landing pages to see which comes off the best. Thanks for the comment.

It seems to me that the real money in Clickbank comes from making your own product. I wasted so much of my time trying to make profitable campaigns for Clickbank but the amount of work it takes to create a profitable affiliate campaign is pretty close the same as if you just made your own product.
And with making your own product you have full control over everything, plus the leverage of affiliates picking you up and the possibility of your product blowing up into something huge.
I finally stepped away from Clickbank for the moment last month and did a few CPA experiments and actually had my first decent month ever. But I know there is money to be had on both sides of the Clickbank fence so good luck and keep us updated

There was a reason I stopped promoting clickbank. Perhaps it was lack of experience in PPC. But I was promoting clickbank when I started with PPC. I had a feeling they were scribing sales. Anyway, the return wasn’t any good. SO i jumped onto CPA networks and never looked back.

@ Ryan – Yeah I keep getting discouraged about the low conversion with clickbank stuff and it does seem that CPA offers are much easier to get to grips with.
I’ve recently watched a series of videos about clickbank which keeps motivating me to try more (they make it look so easy lol)
I’ve been ill for the majority of the weekend so haven’t got much work done but I will crack on with things this week and hopefully get something off the ground.
@ Niche Affiliate Marketing – I did try something in clickbank when I was first starting and I think I stopped for the exact reasons you did, I wasn’t that confident in what I was doing so I lost money in everything I tried, my main/first success was with CPA so I’m naturally biased towards those but I’m sure there is decent money to make from promoting clickbank stuff.
@ Jehzeel – Thanks
Hopefully I will be able to get some campaigns profitable and give some decent tips on clickbank

I have pretty much given up on clickbank and after a year or average 200 click throughs and not one sale I have pretty much given up on it.
The problem is, at least I think, that these places that sell these ebooks and stuff at clickbank all look kind of the same, like shady pages that are desperate to sell you something. I think many people are smart enough to see these scammy sites and just move on.
And I hate to say it but most of the things that people sell on clickbank are just junk …really it is.
I haven’t given up all hope but still never believe those stories of people making a thousand a week on clickbank….if they have they spent a thousand on advertising to get those sales.
