Ideas Flowing Left, Right & Center

There’s nothing more frustrating than having an idea and working on it, then bout half way through you come up with something that you think will work better. What are you are you supposed to do? Stop the current project and begin working on the other one or see the first one to the end, then work on the other one?

It’s times like this when I begin to get half ass campaigns/landing pages all over and actually don’t produce anything in return because I’m spending all of my time working on getting them off the ground.

This post is more to get some interaction and ideas flowing about how to go about this the best way. At the moment I just simply write them down in a notepad and tend to work through them methodically (or as much as possible).

What are the ways you organise your working schedule?

    Hey Rich,

I don’t think there’s really anything wrong with having a lot of ideas – in fact, I think it’s good. Sometimes starting multiple projects can keep you engaged and not bored by working on 1 campaign. On the other hand, if you do a great job on 1 campaign and dig deep into it, you can still profit quite a bit, just make sure you write down your other ideas for future use.

    My bad thanks :)

I wasn’t really saying it’s a bad thing, more along the lines it can be dangerous if you don’t go about it the right way.

Im a nightmare for this as we discussed on aim before. I end up half way through 1 campaign and then will get bored and depressed and end up starting on something new.

Im already working on a new lp for that niche i was working on before but it looks like something that not been tried before for this niche. also ive noticed it resembles my creatives a bit better so maybe this one might work.

However im still concentrating on the old ones traffic and i have a new domain for this new one. I know i should only be concentrating on the old one to get the best conversion possible but its driving me nuts

I know what you mean, it always good to try a number of approaches to a niche to see which does best.

I feel you Richard, I created a trucking marketplace, then in the middle of that project, I realised that I should instead have started with a baby furniture marketplace first.

Now that trucking website is complete and has zero clients (for the past 3 months), while the baby furniture project is still on hold until I have enough money for it.

Both ideas were in my back burner for a while and instead of first launching the one with huge potential for growth, I mistakenly went ahead to launch the not so viable project, which has basically wasted my limited resources and now I’m stuck…

I always hear the same bit of advice. Stay focused and be an expert in one field to succeed. This is very hard in this industry with so many opportunities.

I think having the self dicipline to see a project through to at least the finishing stages is important. Get to a stage where the development is complete and your first campaign has began. At this stage you should know if it has potential. Then you can make a start on another idea you have been itching to make happen.

When you have finished developing and have started a small campaign for all the latest ideas you can then dedicate your time on all the campaigns for each project. So you will be in the frame of mind of keyword research/LP and AD optimization etc.

Yeah that’s the ideal state of mind I want to do, I put together a process of steps for each campaign and try to stick to those.

I always seem to work better off a written list on a notepad rather than listing it in word or whatever. Feels good crossing them off too :D

    Hi Rich,

looking back at my IM experience, setting up multiple campaigns, trying various affiliate marketing business models, plus handling all the personal chores and to-dos, I have used various techniques to stay focused while still handling several projects at the same time.

WHile the ideal way (= the most productive), would be to work on a single project at a time, it is still good to record all ideas you might have and organize them with a simple process so you can use it when the time is right (= you can put your current project on hold or it is completed).

A short while ago, a friend of mine told me about GTD (getting things done, by David Allen) and the wimple software he uses to manage his tasks and projects. It’s called Omnifocus, but unfortunately for me it’s only on MAC. I found another very similar task – project – goal manager that I have started using and I like it a lot. Plus it’s free (there is a Pro version ($14) but the Free has almost all features and this is the one I use now). I think you should check out Toodledo.com. It’s an online task manager that will keep track of all of your to-do lists. I’ve been using it for a while and it has really helped me stay on top of things. Let me know what you think.

BTW, if you follow this special url, I’ll get credit for referring you. http://www.toodledo.com/index.php?ref=td4b06c8dc81021
