Have a Process and Stick to it
-
Since my latest post on my intentions I have been putting together a more detailed plan of action for myself, I tend to work better when I’m working to a list. So I have spent the last few days writing down each step I need to take with each campaign, I then can work through those steps over and over for each campaign I start making sure I don’t miss anything out.
This may be overkill because it’s how I do things anyway but it does make it easier for me to have a step by step process to follow, what it has also allowed me to do is see exactly what I need to do for each campaign and I have a few steps I think I can automate or outsource freeing up some time for myself to work on the other steps.
It’s all good spending the few days to get this process written up but you have to stick to it, I didn’t write it to procrastinate actually starting – I did it to try and speed things up in the long run so I will never be thinking what the next step is or forget anything down the line and have to come back and do it.
I will have it finished today then I just have some running about to do then I will begin this case study either tonight or tomorrow depending on the time I get finished.

You forgot to mention that it feels rewarding crossing an item off a list no matter how simple the item may be.

Great post — something I needed to be reminded of.
And, seconding Roman, it would be great if you could share the steps that aren’t proprietary. (I imagine the proprietary stuff is in how you execute the steps, anyway.)

@ Roman – nice try
I might put together a simpler process for people removing any sensitive details of how I operate.
@ Josh – Yeah it is a great feeling knowing that your one step closer to the end when you mark it off.
@ Brian – Thanks, it definately has helped me be more productive today. I also won’t have to have a quick recap of where I need to start so after I have checked emails etc I can crack on with it straight away. Hopefully

This is great. I also work better when I know what I need to accomplish on a site. Sometimes before I go to bed I will put a plan of action for the next day to follow. If you have a lot of sites, traffic sources, ads, etc you need to keep track of them. I always keep track of where I get back links from for each site and the date. I’d be interested in your seo checklist for sure!
