Gotta Take the Bad with the Good
-
In my last post I mentioned that performance wise this was my worst month to date, however on an educational level it’s been my best. I thought back to when I hit my current best month (profit wise) and tried to remember my day to day routine etc. I can honestly say that I pretty much tossed it off, I spent most of the days refreshing stats and doing what I wanted to.
Granted, it’s making the money that counts but it’s been an expensive lesson for me to learn, instead of pushing myself while things were working to squeeze more out of the campaign (increase ad/lp CTR, rotating offers, finding new traffic sources or whatever) I held back and took a mini break from things WHILST still making money.
Affiliate marketing is like that, what if I spent hours/days/weeks keeping this campaign going for as long as possible and the results were exactly the same? I would have thought all that time went to waste and be pretty down about my capabilities, don’t assume I’m saying to relax and don’t bother trying to scale just in case things don’t work. On the other hand what if I spent that time working on things and my performance doubled, tripled or more?
You have great months as well as bad months, plus throw in a couple of really bad months/experiences – it’s just key to keep on top and maintain faith in what your doing is correct. That being said if everything you try fails and has always done then you may need to rethink what you’re doing.
Keep your chin up there and take variables such as time of year, economy, etc into account. Being my first year I can’t state any facts but there is a lot you can assume such as people wanting to get in shape for summer holidays, people needing money towards Christmas… You get the idea.
