First Real SEO Test

I believe I tried to challenge myself in the past to get this going but always got discouraged and impatient when it comes to waiting for traffic – I’m back and going to just get stuck in making a couple sites maybe a week whilst working on my other projects.

I launched my first mini SEO site about 1-2 weeks ago just to try and get my feet wet, I picked a non competitive keyword to just try and get ranked on the first page to see how easy it was – it does get around 4000-5000 searches a month for the keyword I’ve chosen so if I managed to get to #1 I should get a reasonable amount of traffic to maybe get a steady flow of leads.

I was getting a bit frustrating because I had submitted a sitemap to Google, posting in some blog directories and submitted a video to YouTube and realised my site wasn’t even indexed so that killed my motivation and decided to wait it out a little bit whilst working on another domain – then I noticed I was checking the wrong ltd for my domain and that mine had been indexed a couple days after I had finished the site :)

Anyway after checking I’m ranked on the 4th page for the main keyword which isn’t anything special but it’s a start. Hopefully in the near future the strategies I’ve been using will take effect pushing it up higher.

    What I Have Done

I haven’t done anything remarkable at this point as I did assume it wasn’t getting indexed for some reason, I have threw up a couple of keyword rich posts, done a little blog and directory link building and submitted a video to YouTube and a couple of other video sharing sites.

    Plan of Action

I’m currently building out another domain that I have started and letting this one settle for maybe another week then intend on building squidoo and hub pages to try and boost authority.

Any tips welcome by the way, I’m a complete noob when it comes to SEO…

  1. Richard,

don’t forget to create virtual real estate on web 2.0 properties like hubpages, squidoo, wetpaint, wordpress and blogger blogs…

create one article per keyword (500 words, kw density around 2%), spin it, include one anchor text link to your money site, and for some web 2.0 link them together (one single link).

then bookmark / ping these sites / pages.

add content over a couple of weeks to each of them.

of course there is more, but this should help… at least it works for me. Usually I start with this before doing any article and video marketing, or forum links, or…

  2. SEO is a process, not a task. You have to keep at it each day until you see the results you want, similar to PPC, just on a slower path with a little bit less control. The benefit of SEO is that you don’t have as much concern with cash flow and you can walk away from your campaigns for a week/month/half year and not go broke (for the most part) :)

  3. Indexing can be a pain in the ass but even if it wasn’t index the links would have helped it indexed and/or still give weight eventually…so no reason for being discouraged =)

  5. Hi Richard!

I remember you’ve killed it with paid traffic back in the days! Are you still doing paid traffic?

I’ve stopped doing it after the adwords ban and since then I’m in my beloved SEO.

If your site is on a blog platform, you can index it in hours.

Just submit to Clipmarks or Amplify (using buttons) and social bookmark clipmarks/amplify pages ;)

Yeah I’m mainly concentrating on paid traffic at the moment, this test got indexed pretty fast (using wordpress) but my SEO skills arn’t anything special – it’s currently ranking around the 50-55 mark for the main keyword.
