Clickbank vs. CPA

Yet again, I’m modifying my tests due to some of the comments and thoughts I’ve received on my latest posts. The overall assumption is that basically clickbank is too hard to get profitable, and when you do find that hidden gem – it could only be short term before it falls right back to losing you money. Thanks for the case study Ryan ;)

Anyway I’m not one just to totally cut something off because off recommendations, the only way you can find out if something works or not is to try it yourself right? For whatever reason I might do something differently that does work or I could just flat out fail too – but if I do end up failing at least I will have got a solid reason to say that it doesn’t work and can move on.

I guess I will have to wait until the end of the test to see how it went.

    Plan of action

    • Pick 4 products from clickbank and 4 offers from the CPA networks
    • Perform similar market and keyword research for each campaign
    • Create a landing page for each using a basic template, changing the colours, pictures and text to suite the product/offer
    • Have a budget of $500 per campaign monitoring how quickly that gets depleted and the revenue made to see if it has potential and worth concentrating on
    • Use the same tweaking techniques to weed out the badly performing ads and keywords

I chose 4 pick 4 of each because I already have 4 products from clickbank which I want to try out, I can always extend this test if needed and pick some more.

I believe that covers about everything, you should be able to get the idea of what I am doing :) I will just finish up with doing some other jobs then will get started on landing page template and first campaign.

  1. Iam eagerly waiting for the results Richard. This is going to be interesting.thanks.

  3. Sounds definitely worth the test, based on those that are actually consistently successful with ClickBank products.

  4. good test to do.

to simplify setting up the campaigns, and if the products are pretty similar, you can simply use a php rotating script to evenly rotate your offers for the traffic you send to each niche, hence one campaign testing 1 CB product and 1 similar CPA offer.

T202 has a script on their site (if I remember well), or there are others out there – simply google it. Make sure you use a script that evenly distributes the traffic, and use enough numbers to make the stats valid. Also, try to have a very similar LP or the differences in conversions could mean that the 2 LP pre-selled differently, not that the offer did not convert… but that you can check by comparing the click-through from LP to offer/cb product…

I am sure you already know all this stuff, so this would be for the benefit of other readers.

good luck – let us know the results.

  5. This rocks, and I give you a pat of the back for trying this out. Clickbank may be a tough nut to crack for some, but using your experience I’m sure you’ll find something that works for you.

  6. This would make a great case study. Will the 4 products from the CB and CPA be the same niche?

  7. Hi Richard,

First comment here, subscribed to your feed a few months ago and love reading your posts (would love to see one on some of your content network strategies [hint, hint!] ;)

At any rate, I agree that you should test…there are some real gems at Clickbank…and actually many convert well on search network because many lend themselves to keyword searches (i.e., “cure my hemorrhoids”, etc.)..

To be honest I have just launched a niche product on CB today (literally just paid the activation fee a few hours ago). I would be so grateful if you would at least review the salescopy and then if you like, consider adding to the case study? Thanks in advance for at least considering. By the way I have very nice banners as well for the content network (image ads). Happy to make them available to you, just let me know… My CB vendor name is “keepingym”. In an effort not to spam, I have kept the URL of the site off of this post entirely.

Thanks again for all you do at this site!
