Check Your Browsers!

Just thought I’d do a relatively quick post after a chat with a good friend of mine, Paul from Inspired Money Maker – I actually fell victim to this the other day and was meant to post something about it because it can ruin a campaign without any explanation.

Most internet savvy users use Fire Fox nowadays because of all the perks and plug-ins you can have to make life easier.  The problem arises when you don’t bother to check you’re landing pages in a number of internet browsers – Internet Explorer especially.

If you use prosper202 then you can quickly identify what browser the majority of people are using, I’ve taken a few minutes and watched the ‘spy’ mode and found out that most of the people visiting my landing page use Internet Explorer – however about 1 in 15-20 use Fire Fox.

Others such as safari and opera are near to 0 so they are not a huge concern (although each visitor is a potential conversion :) )  Just imagine if I coded my landing page in and only checked it in Fire Fox and there were a number of cross browser errors in Internet Explorer, I would be throwing money away as they would mostly likely just hit the back button.

    Good point,

although I know this should be on your list, since I started this game a couple of weeks ago I haven’t been doing it. I will now!

One other test to keep in mind is to make sure you test in at least the version of the browser that most people at a given time use, i.e. if IE8.0 has come out but most people still use IE6.3 or whatever (version numbers are just an example here), then make sure you test in IE6.3.

    Voila.

Yeah I actually was going to mention versions of different browsers because there is a tool you can use to check but I forgot the url :P

I’ll have a scout for it to see if I can find it.

    Hi Richard,

I believe the product you’re thinking of is IETester. It can be found here:

Also, wanted to mention that it looks like Google will really be trying to push their browser Chrome. Last I heard, they were trying to sign deals with computer manufacturers to have Chrome installed as the default browser on new computers. So, something to keep in mind.

Check this one out Richard, I was using it extensively when I was messing with my blog’s theme design.

Firefox and IE show really different things sometimes – scary…

    Cheers,
    Alex

Yeah and actually a lot of affiliates forget to do it. Even though firefox is “OUR” browser, most non-tech savvy average surfers just use IE and here in my country its surprising Opera is the most used. That’s why I always check my landing page w/all the 5 browsers I have
