Affiliate Marketing Results: September 2009
-
I’ll keep this short because I know what you’re after
I will also explain what I think was the reason was for last month’s performance. In September I did the following:Revenue = $22,990.00
Spend = $17,662.47Profit = $5,327.53
The performance was very similar to Augusts if I’m honest and I can’t exactly put my finger on why those 2 months were significantly down other than the fact traffic was down and my landing page CTR was down. I did spend the time trying to increase this but whatever I did seemed to make no difference, even if I completely changed the style/look of it.
One thing that does look promising is that over the last week of September my results were significantly better – that last week accounts for more than half of the month’s total profit.
In that week, traffic was increasing daily and still seems to be going in the right direction so fingers crossed it was just due to the time of year with people going on holiday and spending time with family etc that was the problem.

It is still a good income for the month. I could live off this easily for the month. Greg Ellison

Hey Richard, I have enjoyed reading your posts. Good luck finding a new place to stay. September was a tough month for me affiliate wise but my membership site did well. We grew by about 25% which I was happy to see.
Do you do any media buys?

@ Greg – Yeah I’m happy with it compared to the average wage over here etc. It’s just harsh when you have some really good months then drop down.
I do keep an eye on my average profit/month which is still around the $21,000/month mark.
@ Anton – I am spreading my risk by working on various niches, traffic sources etc to try and make it a bit more stable.
@ AffPortal – Congrats on the membership site growth, I don’t do any media buys as of yet but that is something I’m looking at.

Not bad, not bad! Although your eanings fell sharply, you still earn a lot more than majority of people. Just keep working hard and you’ll be back!

Man, congrats on the month and thanks for sharing the info. with everyone.
Just curious, how many offers do you typically run at a time – 1, 5, 20, and do you stick with a couple niches for the bulk of your income or are you always promoting different things?
Great stuff here, and it’s always intriguing to follow your progress.

Forgot to ask you Richard, do you typically promote high-payout offers (like 20+ $ per lead) or work with low-payout offers like submits?
Thanks!

@ Himi – Fingers crossed, I’m confident in something I’m working on at the moment actually
@ BigManta – The majority of my income this year is from one main campaign that I keep tweaking. I am constantly working on new campaigns/niches to try and make the income more stable and higher.
I tend to work on 1 at a time (sometimes 2) and work through it in a process.
@ Anton – I generally would like to keep above the $20 payout mark, it just gives you more leverage when it comes to bidding and trying new things out. On a $1-2 offer you have little room for error in my experience

Thanks a lot Richard, those were questions I had been wondering for a while and your answer to Anton’s question is very helpful as well.

The income may been low but at least you still made a profit. Now that family season is over. Hopefully things return to normal.
