Affiliate Marketing Results: November 2009

    I was thinking about casually missing this post because it’s the first month I’ve been in the red this year. Here’s how I did then I will explain some of the reasons for it:

    Revenue = $2,267.95
    Spend = $6,236.83

    Profit: -$3,968.88

    The main reason for the drop in performance was trying out various traffic sources, I had 2 sour media buys which cost me a fair bit. I was a bit stupid just jumping into them without testing everything first making sure I had the best ad/lp/offer combination to give me the best chance of making a profit.

    I have spent the last week getting another campaign pretty much ready to go after some last minute tweaks and what not so I’m eager to see how that one goes. Another thing I stumbled across is a method to hopefully get one of my past campaigns back up and running that made a very nice chunk of change (about 90%) of my records months, along with the things I’ve learnt the past few months I think I can bring it back even stronger.

    This time I learnt the mistake of slacking off when I saw success, this time I’ll squeeze every bit of profit I can off of it :)

    However I go away in about 2 weeks on holiday so this month’s productivity will not be great as I will be away for the last 2 weeks of December and the first week of January. Good job the hotels got free internet access so that I can keep close tabs on everything while I’m away.

    Keep at it Richard, don’t give it. Keep throwing shit at the wall till something sticks.

    What has happened with your previous $100.000 campaign? You stopped running it?

    Hopefully things will get better in 2010!

    I had a few issues with it, I’m actually just sorting some things out that may be able to get that back up and running. I’m just launching a campaign then I’ll look into that one.

    Absolutely normal situation Richard – testing equals learning, I’ve had several red months as well, but that made me take a break, then make a bird’s look at what I was doing, and finally coming up with fresh and cool ideas to turn the red into black.

    I gonna do my calculations for this month today, seems like I’m in some profits after tweaking my campaign.

    Yeah although I’m down just under $4,000 last month has been the best in terms of learning etc

    Affiliate marketing is crazy for sure, I am pretty much responsible for the outcome – I wasn’t pushing myself and treating it like a business.

    Although I’m pretty much back to square one I don’t regret anything, you learn from your mistakes and I’m just in the process of reworking some campaigns I had in the past to bring them upto speed with what I’ve learnt over the last few months.

    It’s easy as a blogger to always want to post only growth and good figures, but it’s more impressive to me that you posted this. Good job man – You’ll do better this next month for sure. :)

    I know for a fact (I’ll pause it at $3k in the red ;) ) I was trying some reverse psychology on myself, a kick up the ass so that I don’t have to post results in the red again.

    I bought that book you talked about on facebook, predictably rational or something (forgot the name) to take on my holiday and give me some ‘work’ related work to do :D

    Stay with it man…I mean, maybe you have the money to blow like that, but I would be more conservative if I were you, test things out slowly man. It seems to me you are doing something wrong.

    Disclaimer – I am no “super” affiliate, but I am profiting enough to not have to work a full time job anymore, but I hope for much more :)

    Hey champ!…

    Thanks so much for this great resource that is your blog.

    This is the first time I’ve come across a blog that is fully transparent in disclosing the details…both good and bad…keep up the great work and remember, successful people work harder and smarter when most people simply give up!

    I am very new to this affiliate marketing biz myself. I started making profit from the get go in November but December has been bad…is this normal trend in your opinion due to December being all about holidays, Xmas etc…?

    To success,
    Iman

    Hey, well this is my first year doing this so I don’t have any concrete trends I can relate to – just what others tend to say and guessing.
