Affiliate Marketing Results: January 2009
-
Last month was my best month to date with affiliate marketing, I had been working fairly hard on my campaigns but at points I wasn’t able to launch new stuff due to my cash flow. It was a case of keeping my best ROI campaigns running throwing as much money at them, being on weeklies helped a great deal so each week I could reinvest my profits into scaling/launching new campaigns to make more profit the next week.
You can take a look at Decembers performance here if you missed it.
Here as last month’s figures:
Spend = $21,394.37
Revenue = $30,180.50Profit = $8,786.13
As you can see it’s quite an increase from any previous month and the best thing is that the first week or two was not as good as my average day is at the moment. I’m estimating February to break the $10,000 profit level.

Seems like the bad economics and Christmas/New Year don’t affect your earnings much.

After reading the $2000 post I was waiting to see how your month would end up. Sounds like you are really getting some of the finer points of affiliate marketing down.

I’m just in the process to see if I can take the things I’ve learnt into new niches to try and build a more stable income.
I’ll be documenting some of the tactics I use to build a successful campaign.

Nice work man! One question though – how come the profit margin is not very large?, is it because of testing or other things? Seems like you could have had more cashflow if you would have stopped at the $18,000 mark and with $10,000 spend end up with an $8,000 profit, unless of course the profit margin decreased as you spent more. j/w.

Hi Richard,
I just found your blog,…wow you really have made alot of progress very quickly.
I wanted to ask 2 things if you dont mind:
1 – is your main focus on yahoo?
2 – do you focus on yahoo content network?
Thanks,
Marc

TipJar – It was actually the first week or 2 of January that was performing badly. I’m hoping to have a better profit margin this month after I tweaked a couple of things.
Melissa – Thanks for the comment, I’ve actually just noticed you are now my am at Market Leverage so have added you on aim and we can have a chat when were both online.
Marc – In regards to your questions:
1) I tend to deal mainly with Google now, in the beginning to get my feet wet I was working with Yahoo as it’s cheaper and I read that it’s easier to learn the basics.
2) I didn’t really try the content network on Yahoo, I have only been playing around with the content network in general for a month or so, so I’m still learning how to get the best results.
Your Money Online – I wrote the report yesterday after this one and scheduled it for today, It’s just actually gone live
thanks everyone for your comment/questions, keep them coming!

Thanks Richard,
So at the moment 1 of your main traffic drivers is google search and not google content?
thanks,
Marc

Hey Marc,
At the moment Google search is the main source of traffic, I’m just in the process of uploading it into Yahoo and MSN to see if there is any volume there.
Regards Google content I have a pretty nice chunk of that revenue/profit from the content network but I myself am still kinda learning how to bring costs down increasing ROI. I do know that the biggest factor is your ads CTR so at the moment it’s just a case of testing to improve things

Thanks for the response Richard.
an idea for a future blog post might be niche selection. This seems to be where most affiliates battle and is so important to success. Like you said you have had profitable campaigns right off the bat, which means you must have a pretty good way of choosing niches to test out.
thanks,
Marc

Hi I was wondering Which rewards Credit card are you using? and how did you get such a big increase with a credit card being able to spend 20k+ ?

Kerry – at the moment I don’t use a rewards credit card as I have to find a decent one in the UK. Regards your questions about the limit, I’m on weeklies so every week I can pay the credit card off in full and start fresh.
