Affiliate Marketing Results: August 2009
-
Last month was pretty bad in terms of my results, in fact it was the 2nd worst month I’ve had this year which is a shame but I do have a few ideas why things have slowed down.
First off it’s the school holidays here over in the UK, I’m not sure if that’s the same in the US but I assume people go away on vacation and spend time with the family around this time of the year. My ROI was significantly down this month, I even had days when I lost money which were a shame but overall I still came out in profit – and compared to the average wage it’s still not bad.
I also let slip having a series of good months, I laid back and spent time with family and friends instead of pushing myself and cranking out campaigns each day. I’m taking this as a lesson well learnt as I have put more of a routine together in regards to working and set myself weekly goals.
This is why in one of my latest posts you need to spread your earnings out rather than going month by month, if I went out and bought expensive things on credit (houses, cars etc) that needed monthly repayments it only takes a few months which are significantly lower, you can end up in a really bad place finding it hard to get out as the stress and concerns will affect your work and performance.
Enough babbling, here’s how I did last month:
Revenue = $29,284.43
Spend = $20,760.21Profit = $8,524.22

Ouch. Hopefully this month turns out better. Granted, I’m nowhere near that number, but to go from 70k to 8k would be painful.

this is really painful to see that you have gone from 70k to 8k. although i am not affiliated marketer and it is my dream to earn this kind of money but i know that how painful it is.
please look for the lesson you have learned from this month. i know that you have not earned much money but you can take benefit from this experience by gaining insight and wisdom which is also equally important. because this wisdom help you in future.

8K is very good for a monthly income, but like the last commentor it would suck from going to 70k to 8k. Keep working at it. Greg Ellison

Come on Richard.Do something about this.Is this the same case with all affiliates?If so,that is ok.But if it is just you who has seen reduced profits then there is some problem,right?What about your friends – did they experience similar kind of income reduction?
Cheers,
your well wisher

Hey, this is still pretty good result! 8000$ is still a lot more than majority of people earn in a month.
Congrats!

Thanks for the comments all, I have been identifying the main reason for the drop and from what I can see it’s the landing page CTR.
I’m actually redoing the campaign and having it partially launched today to try and split test a new landing page.
Being my first year in affiliate marketing it’s hard to judge at the moment but I did assume that there will be slow months in affiliate marketing as people take vacations, spend time with the family and just relax away from the computer.

Affiliate marketing is a lot like many sales jobs where you work strictly off commission. You have to save the money you earn and stretch it out over the year. Just like you said, you never know when you’re going to have a bad month. Still 8k is not too shabby.

Richard, its still not bad. 8k a month is way more then any manager sitting in a office sitting making a month. I make 65k which is considered good in TO. That amounts to 3.4k a month after taxes. So 8k a month is still 2x better than a good paid job.

Income maybe way down but at least you still made a profit. What I wouldn’t do to make $8k a month right about now.
