Affiliate Marketing Results: April 2009

    Sorry for the delay in writing this post, as you know I took a couple weeks off to go on holiday, I tried a couple more campaigns out throughout April but they didn’t seem to go anywhere – my holiday has helped me in the fact I’ve had time to take a stand back from campaigns and look at what I’m supposed to be doing. I feel that I will be able to create better campaigns after listening to some webinars etc.

    Anyway, here are April’s results – they are quite an accomplishment to say I didn’t do too much work and the campaigns I launched lost me money.

    Revenue = $69,913.00
    Spend = $40,879.39

    Profit = $29,033.61

    Wow Richard, great numbers. I want to ask you something. Your main money maker campaign is it like Pay per sale or is it something like email or zip submit type. Thanks

    Hi Richard

    Great results again.

    What is the average payout for the CPA offers you are running. Is the bulk of your business coming from payouts of $1.50 or much higher than that.

    Thanks

    Tony

    Wow, Richard congrats on your earnings!
    Is this mostly from google content network? I just launched a new campaign via content and can’t get any impressions. What am i doing wrong? i have 30 keywords, placement targeted with a few websites. Testing one adgroup. Your post is very inspiring!

    Nice Richard!

    And some affiliates wouldn’t be happy with a 58% ROI!

    Really interested in your answers to these questions if you don’t mind sharing:

    1. Do you aim to achieve a min amount of ROI for a certain amount of time before you diversify onto a new product? For examply do you set a goal to achieve 100% ROI, spending at least $2000 per week for a whole month. If you achieve that, then you will leave that to do it’s thing for a while and start a new income stream.

    2. Where do you have the most success with PPC, on the google search or content network?

    3. Not expecting you to share which offer you promote, but could you tell us what type of CPA offer you are working on? Is it finance (e.g. loans), a service (e.g. broadband) or a physical product?

    Cheers Richard, your blogs a great read!

    @ Tony – The payouts are higher than the email/zip submits. In the beginning I would recommend going after the $20+ payouts as you have more leveragem you could spend $15 and have 0 conversions and still make a profit in that last $5. When a payout is $2 you need to either find low cpc traffic or high converting traffic.

    @ Alex – Thank, it’s good to finally begin getting into the swing of things.

    @ Beowulf – Congrats on the profit, not too long ago I was making about that amount. Check out this post

    @ Keith – Yeah the majority of thast was from the content network. It’s hard to say what the problem is without looking into it. It could be a number of things, your CPC could be too low for the sites you’ve chose compared to competiting affiliates, the keywords could be too broad, etc, etc.

    I’m going to try and do either another case study or at least a post on the content network as there is huge amounts of money up for grabs if done correctly.

    @ Steven – I’ll try answer them as best as I can:

    1) Not really, I think any ROI in the beginning of a campaign is a good start. I begin to look at new campaigns/products when I either feel I’ll be wasting more time on the current campaign for the additional return or I can’t think of anything else to do to scale it.

    The end thing I look at is the profit, I would sacrifice ROI if I could add an additional $x,xxx/month in profit. For example if I was to increase bids to get more traffic but I recieved more profit in the end.

    2) The most success has been from the content network at the moment, I tried both out and had success on both but then for whatever reason I began to focus on the content for now. I have plans to get back into search in a way to expand on my current campaign to see if I can squeeze any more profit out of it.

    This month hasn’t been so great as my main campaign has died out, I thought I fixed it but it seemed not to change so I’m working on that at the moment before I jump onto anything else.

    3) I did do abit of payday loans earlier this year and made a small profit, back then I didn’t have much cash flow so I had to focus on the stuff that brought the most profit in. It’s a really comptetive niche.

    Being pretty general as I want to keep my profits as high as possible :) I tend to look at what’s either hot or something I’m interested in. Like I’ve said before I would rather create 10 smaller niche topics than one huge one in say the finance niche. It just makes it easier to work on and if 1 was to get slapped, die out or anything else – I have 9 to rely on :)
