A Great, Simple Scaling Technique
-
I’m a big believer in going long term opposed to having several short term campaigns up and running which could become obsolete any day. Put it this way, would you rather work and benefit from it for months to come or years? Obviously there is a time and a place for short term campaigns such as seasonal offers for Valentine’s Day, Mothers Day, Christmas, etc – but in order to become a full time affiliate you need to establish a reliable steady income.
Granted, when you start a niche you don’t want to spend a great deal of time doing anything because you are not sure if it will even be profitable in the long run. However I see many people fall into the trap of finding a campaign that does well, perhaps making a good amount of profit ($50/$100/$200) a day and then leave it and move on. In fact I’m guilty of this which is half the reason for this post.
Making your first steady $100/day is the hardest part of a campaign, why would you want to start from scratch when you have already done the hard part. It’s time to scale that campaign to start making $1,000’s a day in profit.
The main reasoning for me slacking on the scaling side is because I have a profitable campaign at the moment, what if I make some changes and it makes it perform worse? There are a few ways around this, perhaps you could buy another related domain and work on that, leaving your current one intact making the $X profit each day.
A good scaling technique which I’m in the process of doing is to take your converting keywords, and simply write content based around them. Take your 1 page landing page and turn it into a mini site, if you could write an article every other day (or pay someone to) in a matter of months you will have built up a substantial amount of content giving you a number of benefits:
• Search engines love fresh, unique content. You will often find that your quality score will increase – this in turn will reduce your bids increasing your roi.
• After time you will begin ranking for those keywords, imagine getting free visitors that convert! Even if they don’t all convert you haven’t lost anything because you haven’t paid for the click. This is a great way to improve your roi.
• Ranking organically is more secure because in PPC your competition could kill you, say if 10 people found the keyword you are relying on – this would no doubt increase the minimum bid price because people are all fighting to rank for it. If you rank for the search term organically then you have more control over your position, you can perform various SEO on your site to guarantee that you remain in that number one spot.In regards to the ranking organically point, if you are focusing on long tail keywords then you will find it much easier and quicker to rank for it. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t write content for the short tail keywords you have found that convert, the more content you can write about the subject the more chance of you ranking and picking up organic visitors for terms related to your article.
