2009 Affiliate Marketing Results

I can’t believe I’ve been doing this over a year now, it seems like yesterday that I was registering this domain just getting started.

Overall there is nothing I can complain about, I’ve spent 6 weeks out of the country, bought a new car and pretty much done what I wanted to when I wanted.

I won’t be repeating that this year because I want to get my head down and work my ass off, the great thing is that at the minute I enjoy researching and working on campaigns so spending 12 hours a day at the computer doesn’t seem like a job to me.

Having come away in the middle of December I didn’t really do anything affiliate marketing related, I setup a few sites ready to get going as soon as possible. I didn’t really want to get something ready to go and have to wait 3 weeks until I could babysit the campaign, a lot can happen in 3 weeks so I just cut my losses and called it a year early.

Below are my first year’s results:

    Revenue: $487,162.13
    Spend: $299,211.98
    Profit: $187,950.15

    Here’s to 2010!

I’m currently not using Google no, my income has took a massive hit having a fair bit of time off over the holidays and everything. I’m just in the process of testing out some new traffic sources, methods etc so the first few months of this year maybe slow in terms of profit but then the rest of the year should kick ass.

Providing I find something that works :)

  2. Great work! I don’t believe you’re going to Affiliate Summit next week, but how about Ad:Tech San Francisco in April?

Cheers, I’m not going to ASW, already just took 3 weeks off so dying to get back to work :P

I may consider Ad:Tech in April though, I’ll set myself a goal to reach before then and come if I reach it. The one in Lonon was a good laugh, what I remember of it lol

I hope so, I made some stupd mistakes in 2009 which have forced me to practically start from fresh but with all the things I have learnt and know now I’m sure I can improve on my performance.

  4. Very nice results for a first year in Affiliate Marketing (actually it is really more 11 months!). Most people would love to reach that kind of income in 5 years, so this is really a great achievement.

Keep on, you are definitely on a fast track!

    Congrats!

Thanks, Just hope I can keep it up and growing. I am venturing into other things as well as affiliate marketing – It’s a great business to be in but I want to give myself a safeguard having multiple sources of income. I’ve learnt the hard way about putting all your eggs in one basket.

  5. Well done, man! That’s a very good outcome for your first year in IM!

Most people are still reading through ebooks and forums and twiddling their thumbs 12 months in… :P

    All the best for 2010!

    Cheers,
    Shane

  7. Good work Richard. You reached almost half a million in revenue. That is great work.

My revenue were about 187k last year, which happened to be my first as well, with profits of about 80k.

Got banned from google. I now do media buys and revenue has jumped.

  9. Congrats! I literally just started looking into affiliate marketing today. Hopefully I’ll be able to match your results this year. Have any suggestions how to get started? I can spend countless hours on the computer and enjoy doing so.

Just stick at it and try not to spend too much time reading. I would try to pick a smaller niche that perhaps won’t have as much competition so your tests will be cheaper. Good luck

Just west of Belfast. How are you structured for paying tax just out of curiosity? Ltd company? Sole Trader?

Nice, I’m setup as a ltd company at the moment. However it works out really expensive as I pay national insurance and tax on my wage and the company (me) also has a contribution.

I’m not sure on the best way, how are you structured?

If I ever make enough from ££ this game, I’ll be probably going the ltd route as well.

Nice one Richard. Good to see a fellow Brit doing so well. I’m just a few junctions down the M1 from you (J28).

A very good profit for your first year. I have some other non-IM earnings in USD and I’m loving the massive fall the GBP has taken against the dollar. Some days you can earn a few hundred extra just for the drop in the Pound!

Of course, it also works the other way, so I’d make sure you convert most of that into GBP now before it hikes up to 2 dollars to the pound again.
